History:
- 1957–1972: Yvon Chouinard began selling hand-forged climbing gear in 1957, leading to the establishment of Chouinard Equipment. In 1970, he introduced durable rugby shirts for climbers, marking the brand’s entry into apparel.
- 1973–1980: Patagonia was officially founded in 1973, opening its first store in Ventura, California. The brand expanded its product line to include apparel for various outdoor activities, emphasizing quality and functionality.
- 1981–1990: In 1981, Patagonia and Chouinard Equipment were incorporated within Great Pacific Iron Works. The brand continued to innovate, introducing fleece jackets made from recycled materials and promoting environmental awareness.
